Life can unravel quickly — anxiety spikes, emotions overwhelm, panic sets in, or a deep numbness takes hold. Whether you're in the middle of a mental health crisis or at the edge of burnout, Zen + Zest Therapy Services offers a calm, grounded space where you can begin to make sense of what’s happening.

You don’t have to have the right words. You don’t need to hold it all together. We’ll meet you exactly where you are — with warmth, presence, and a plan to help you move forward.

How Individual therapy works

We offer responsive, trauma-informed therapy designed to support you in moments of emotional intensity. Our goal is to help you:

  • Stabilize: Regain a sense of safety, calm, and control

  • Understand: Make sense of what you're feeling and why

  • Process: Begin working through the root of your pain

  • Rebuild: Identify supports, resources, and steps toward healing

We tailor sessions to your current state — sometimes that means deep breathing and grounding, sometimes it means just sitting and being heard.

What we’ll work on

  • Our work is gentle, flexible, and paced according to your nervous system. We draw from evidence-based tools including:

    • Crisis-focused stabilization strategies

    • Somatic (body-based) grounding practices

    • Mindfulness and distress tolerance skills

    • Narrative and trauma-informed frameworks

    • Safety and support planning, if needed

FAQS

Common questions about individual therapy

  • Your first session is a gentle starting point. We'll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you're hoping for, and what support might look like. There's no pressure to open up right away — we go at your pace. Think of it as a conversation, not an interrogation.

  • Most clients begin with weekly sessions, but we’ll tailor the frequency to your needs. Some people shift to biweekly or monthly as they gain confidence and clarity. We’ll check in regularly about what feels supportive for you.

  • Therapy is different for everyone. Some people come for short-term support (8–12 sessions), while others stay longer to work through deeper patterns or transitions. There's no fixed timeline — we'll talk about your goals and adjust as needed.

  • Most therapists provide virtual therapy. We have 1 therapist who provides services in-person in Farmingdale, Long Island.
